Pickin’ a Box 

We just got our prototype back from Panda Manufacturing and it looks pretty darn good…

This will be the box that EVERYONE gets—regardless of if they bought an additional wooden one or not. In fact, let me just show you the two side by side…

Oops… that’s actually the box and a bottle of tequila we drank right after receiving the box. Let me find the wooden one… oh, here it is…

We designed the box in such a way that you can divide the Disorder cards into one tray and the rest of the cards in the other—the set-up you need to do before each game.

BUT, we also made the box big enough so that when we come out with an expansion pack, you can easily fit BOTH into one box—for easier portability.

Things may change slightly from this design. We’re still making a few tweaks. But this is basically how it’s going to look when it arrives in the mail this summer—yeah, that’s right, we’re looking at a hard summer now. But it’s only because we care so much about getting you the best product.

It Was Shocking, Outrageous, Insulting, and We Loved Every Minute of It!

Finally, we’d like to give a scream out (it’s like a shout out, only more emphatic) to our friends at God Hates Games. Their game God Hates Charades is a fantastic, charades-style, party game that you need to buy immediately. Amis, happy rabbits and/or reanimation and/or reclined dinners! This update includes two updated versions of the Side Effects print and play: one in French and another in English.

Both versions include the new bonus cards (High Tolerance and Misdiagnosis) and have a small change to the overall number of cards. A quick refresher on the new cards is below, but to head straight to the print and plays, click here for French and here for English. The password for both is RxRefill.

New Cards, Who Dis?

You picked ‘em and we’re glad you did—High Tolerance and Misdiagnosis add a new level of insanity (madness?) to Side Effects and we can’t wait for you to start using them.

To recap their effects: High Tolerance allows you to remove a drug from another player’s Psyche—we recommend doing this and then giving them an episode of that newly untreated disease for an extra burn—and Misdiagnosis allows you to swap out a disease from your hand with one in your Psyche (it’s great for replacing something very serious, like Madness, with something more benign, like Impotence). It’s important to note that Misdiagnosis only takes one move to perform, despite it involving more than one card. We’d also like to point out that these cards are an optional feature of the game. Use them as you would a spice—adding as many as you’d like for your optimal gameplay experience. 

We’ve also made some minor changes to the number of each type of card in the deck—it won’t affect your strategy, but it makes for smoother gameplay.

What Else Is New?

Delivery 

We’re looking at a summer delivery. As we move through production, we’ll be able to give a narrower delivery window. We’re very sorry to miss March delivery and will keep you in the loop as your cards are printed, gilded (!), packed, and plane/train/automobiled to your mailbox.

Production 

We’re so, so excited that Side Effects is being produced by Panda Game Manufacturing. Production can make or break a game, so we really did our homework with this very big decision—we met with many companies and looked at tons of samples. Here’s why we went with Panda: they’re owned and operated by lifelong gamers, have an A+ track record (Pandemic, Merchants & Marauders, Control, Dead of Winter), and are demonstrably committed to a great working environment. You Guys Rule

Game Cons 

Do you have your outfit planned for International Tabletop Day?! We’re bickering over pant length for our matching jumpsuits but will be participating in the festivities and demos at Hex & Co in NYC on April 28. Who’s going to PAX West? It’s August 31–September 3 in Seattle. It’s a trek for us, but PAX Unplugged was so fun that we’re hoping to attend the west coast version (and obviously take a Frasier tour).

Now You’re Speaking My Language 

With Side Effects in Panda’s trusty paw-hands, we’re able to get back into the translated print and plays. French is first in le queue and we’ll have it ready for you to play by next Samedi.

For those unfamiliar with post-Kickstarter surveys, it's really just a webpage where you provide your mailing address and have the option to purchase extra (new!) stuff! You, of course, don’t HAVE to buy anything, but if you want, we would, like, really appreciate it.
